8:30 am “Who Are the Amish?” Presented by Paul Miller, director of The Amish & Mennonite Heritage Center. Wayne and Holmes counties are at the center of the world's larges Amish community.
10:00 am Board bus to tour Wooster area
10:15 am Guided walking tour of the Wayne County Historical Society Campus, founded in 1904. This complex of six period-furnished buildings and grounds includes an 1826 brick home, 1873 schoolhouse, 1880 country store and ladies' dress shop, firehouse and log house, furnished ca. 1860. Another building houses the history of transportation including carriages, fire engines and a working model railroad. Other displays include early agricultural implements, blacksmith and woodworking tools, antique lamps and a large collection of birds and mammals.
NOON Luncheon at the Olde Jaol Restaurant Dine in an historic cell. Claiming to be the finest sheriff facility of its kind, the Olde Jaol facility was built in 1865. The jail closed in 1977 and was registered as an historic landmark in 1980. The Ollde Jaol Restauant opened in 1995.
1:30 pm Quailcrest Farm One of the best known and respected herb farms in Ohio and surrounding states. Walk a self-guided tour of 25 display gardens. Quailcrest Farm has an extensive variety of herbs, perennials, old roses, flowering shrubs, scented geraniums and more under a 12,000 sq. ft. greenhouse solarium. Watch a demonstration making a miniature garden tray. A restored barn has many unique garden and home gifts.
3:30 pm Hartzler's Ice Cream Shop Old-fashioned premium ice cream and frozen custards (over 25 flavors) and cream-top milk in glass bottles, all produced on premises. Choose a cone, sundae or parfait snack. Ice cream snacks are not included in registration fee.
4:15 pm Garden of Roses of Legend & Romance and Secrest Arboretum, located on the campus of The Ohio Agricultural Research and Decelopment Center. Take a narrated wagon ride around the 115-acre arboretum viewing more than 2,000 species and varieties of ornamental plants and trees, stopping to see and smell some of the 500 varieties of roses.

$14.95: age 3 & older, under 48 inches tall in shoes
Age 2 & under: free
Admission & transportation not included on registration form. Transportation will be arranged after we know how many are going. Children 12 & under must be accompanied by an adult.

About Our Speakers

Dr. Luther Tweeten, Ph.D.

Professor Emeritus, The Ohio State University
Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics

Dr. Tweeten was Ohio State's first Andersons Chair in Agricultural Marketing, Trade, and Policy. He retired in 2000 but remains active in research and outreach activities within the discipline. Primary research interests are agricultural policy and international trade. Other research interests include macroeconomic policy, resource economic policy, international development, and human resource development. Recent studies include regionalization in trade, strategic trade theory, farmland preservation, the changing structure of agriculture, farm policy after commodity programs, optimal soil conservation, the economics of carbon sequestration, and the impact of the demographic transition on agricultural trade. He speaks nationally on topics related to agricultural trade, agricultural policy, macroeconomic policy, agricultural outlook, and rural development.

Dr. Michael Boehlje, Ph.D.

Professor, Purdue University, Agricultural Economics

Dr. Boehlje conducts research and teaches in the area of farm and agribusiness management and finance. His research interests include alternative systems of coordination of the food and industrial product chain, the industrialization of agriculture and alternative financial and organizational structures for farm and agribusiness firms.

Professor Boehlje teaches a graduate/undergraduate course in agricultural finance and a graduate course in economics for managers in the EMBA program. He also teaches in the executive development programs of the Center for Food and Agricultural Business, as well as in schools and extension programs for farmers and lenders on finance and management topics. He is a Fellow of the American Agricultural Economics Association and of the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association.

One hundred dollars ($100) will be awarded to the first five (5) individuals submitting an outstanding idea for the Exchange of Ideas activity by May 6, 2005 May 20, 2005. Complete the application form, including a brief description of your idea, and send to President Elect Tim Holtquist.

The NFRBMEA awarded $200 scholarships (covered 2005 Annual Conference Registration Fee) to five (5) individuals attending our Annual Conference for the first time. This year's First Timers' were:

Hotel

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hilton Garden Inn— Wooster. The Hilton will serve as the Conference headquarters. All breakfasts will be at the Hilton, and bus tours will leave from the Hilton.

The room rate for the NFRBMEA Conference block of rooms is $99 per night plus tax, and will be held until May 6, 2005. Reservations can be made directly to the Hilton Garden Inn— Wooster by calling the hotel directly at 330-202-7701 or calling the Hilton reservation line at 1-877-STAY-HGI. Reservations can also be made online at www.hiltongardeninn.com.

There is a Hampton Inn approximately 10 minutes away from the Hilton Garden Inn. A block of rooms has been reserved. Conference rate is $89 per night. The Hampton Inn is located at 4253 Burbank Rd, Wooster, OH 44691. Phone (330) 345-4424.
